Stephen Rea leads the cast of Éist, a new short film written and directed by Róisín Kearney and produced by Caroline Grace-Cassidy and Kevin Cassidy for Document Films.

When a young boy hears the cry of his ailing grandfather, he hatches a plan to break him out of his nursing home and take him back to the island to make peace with the ocean that took the life of his brother.

Éist is a meditation on memory, loss, and childhood trauma. After hearing his ailing grandfather’s desperate cries, a young boy breaks him out of his nursing home, returning him to his remote island home, hoping the unforgiving sea will finally release his past.

Based on The David Puttnam Award winning script, Éist will premiere at The Galway Film Fleadh in July 2026.
